The advanced in Advanced Coma Free.A traditional Ritchey Chrtien (RC) is a type of reflector that delivers a coma free flat field of view via hyperbolic primary and secondary mirrors. RC telescopes (from a variety of manufacturers) are found in most of the world's top observatories and NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. Because the mirrors in these telescopes have always been very expensive to make few amateur astronomers could enjoy them. Fortunately Meade engineers developed a radical new Advanced Coma Free design by combining a hyperbolic secondary mirror with a corrector lens and spherical primary mirror combination that performs as one hyperbolic element. This ACF design produces a coma free flat field of view that rivals traditional RC telescopes at a fraction of the cost. The design even eliminates diffraction spikes and improves astigmatism both of which are inherent in the traditional ACF design. When reviewing Meade's LX200 ACF Advanced Coma Free Sky and Telescope magazine said  It does indeed perform like a Ritchey Chrtien. The difference between the off axis images (compared to a Schmidt Cassegrain) was dramatic to say the least.     f/10 Advanced Coma Free Optics: Building from a classi A common limitation that plagues owners of most popular Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes is the narrow field size and high magnifications produced by their slow optical system (typically f/10).  Until now owners of SCTs have lacked a truly versatile and high quality method of reducing their f/10 (or slower) systems for faster wider photographic/CCD and visual fields. (note: the telecompressor is not intended for use with the Meade native f/6.3 SCTs).     Celestron's deluxe tele extender is a high power photographic accessory for Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes. It's a hollow tube that allows you to attach a camera to your telescope with an eyepiece installed. By using the Deluxe Tele Extender in combination with an eyepiece you can increase your telescope's effective focal length to well over 10000mm! And with this comes a corresponding increase in image size.  It's a technique known as eyepiece projection photography and it multiplies magnification by the distance from eyepiece center to the film plane according to the following formula: Effective Focal Length = Telescope focal length ? Eyepiece focal length X DF (distance to film).  The deluxe tele extender is used for high power lunar solar and planetary photography as well as for extreme terrestrial photography. To employ the tele extender remove the diagonal from your telescope and insert an eyepiece directly into the visual back. Place the Tele Extender over both the eyepiece and the visual back and attach your 35mm SLR camera to the back of the tele extender using a T ring. That puts you in business for fine highly magnified astrophotography!  Note: The image you'll see through your camera's viewfinder will be upside down. And because of the extremely high magnifying effect afforded by the deluxe tele extended you'll want to take extra care to prevent camera and telescope vibration. Accurate polar alignment and using only under good seeing conditions will also help you capture high quality images.  The deluxe tele extender is only for Schmidt Cassegrain telescopes!
